A New Kind of Air in Bellingham
Saturday, July 12 marked a milestone for Northwest Tune-Up as Bellingham hosted its first-ever Lazer FMB Freestyle Showdown, a bronze-level Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour event that leveled up what was once an amateur dirt-jump jam. Competitors dropped into the flow-tuned, gap-jump expert course at the Waterfront Bike Park, set against an industrial backdrop, and were judged on trick difficulty, flow, amplitude and style with two runs apiece.
Competition, Creativity & Crowd Vibes
Emceed by freeride veteran Cam McCaul with DJ beats from the Red Bull War Wagon, the Showdown turned the Waterfront Bike Park into a scene of creativity flair, and fierce competition. Open Men’s and Women’s divisions brought World Tour points onto the table and a purse split across podiums. Emerging freeriders from across the West Coast and British Columbia hit the big air—many making their first mark on an FMB-sanctioned stage—while a Grom (U15) category planted the seed for future champions.
